James Brown Sweeney (1929, Columbus, Ohio) participated in the Anglo-American colonization project. He traveled to Ecuador to reside in Santo Domingo, province of Santo Domingo de los Colorados (then changes his name to Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas), Ecuador, in 1947. His objective was to be a farmer and rancher in the tropical zone. This fact allowed him to detect the deficiencies of the local market in terms of the existence of veterinary medicine. So he contacted the Company Anchor of St. Joseph Missouri, USA, to be a distributor of this commercial house. This is how in 1971, the company James Brown Veterinary Products was founded.

Driven by the spirit of satisfying the client, he assumes the challenge of producing locally with the risk of investment in infrastructure and technology. With the advice of Anchor, an internationally recognized firm. In 1977, the industrial plant began operations in the town of Puembo, developing different pharmaceutical forms such as suspensions, oral and injectable solutions, ointments, tablets and aerosols.

Two decades later (1990), exports began to the Andean market, with distribution in Bolivia. In 1993, Felipe Brown Hidalgo began his management as CEO, and made several strategic alliances such as James Brown Veterinary Products of Venezuela, and then incorporated into the distribution channel Dominican Republic, Peru, Panama, Guatemala and Costa Rica.

In 2001 James Brown Veterinary Products turns 30 and takes possession as leaders of the pharmaceutical and biological market in the animal health industry, in addition to consolidating in the Andean market.

This positioning is due to the investment in trained professionals and new technology: modern equipment, improvement in infrastructure such as: sterile production areas, equipped with filtered air systems (HEPA), among others.

In 2004, we obtained the GMP Certification of Good Manufacturing Practices, strengthening quality requirements. This is how shareholders see new challenges in the pharmaceutical market and decide to venture into the human health division. The Company changes its corporate name to James Brown Pharma C.A.

In 2007, the commercialization of three brands for the Human Division began, entering the pediatric and gynecological line. The products are Oralyte – oral serum, Bioflora – probiotic, Vit-Amino the multivitamin with amino acids, Fullderma multipurpose cream, and Couplett an antibiotic for vaginal use.

In 2009, James Brown Pharma becomes a pioneer in the manufacture of liquid gel-caps (softgel) by launching its product Vit-Amino Plus to the national market.

In 2012, James Brown Pharma installed machines for the production of Prefilled Syringes or Hypack products. The Pets division is created and manages the line of products for pets. A strategic alliance with MARS Andino from Colombia is also created for the import and distribution of  Pedigree and Whiskas brands for the specialized channel (Petshops, Veterinary Clinics and Agro-stores).

In recent years an important investment has been made in terms of expansion and remodeling of both production plants in Pifo and Puembo. The acquisition of new equipment with the objective of maintaining and guaranteeing quality products for our clients.

In 2017 the consolidation of offices in the Pifo production plant, closing the offices in Quito.

In 2018 the final division of production plants. With the expansion of the Veterinary plant in Puembo for which the facilities are adapted to produce all veterinary pharmaceuticals and the production of the animal health and human health division is completely separated.

2019 we launch our own line of dog food MASCOTA JB that accompanies the line of pharmaceutical products destined for pets. James Brown Pharma also innovates its ERP system with the prestigious SAP Business One.

In this way the company is consolidated to reach new goals and challenges in the pharmaceutical industry in the future.
